Yesterday, the 40th DOK.fest München ended in cinemas. Almost all of the films are still available to watch online until Sunday 25 May. Overall, the cinemas and special venues welcomed more visitors than last year, with around 36,000 people attending the numerous film screenings, industry platform events at DOK.forum, and educational programme activities at DOK.education. The final summary, including online views, will be announced in a week‘s time.
The most-watched films were FRIENDLY FIRE, AZZA, SOLDATEN DES LICHTS and SIMON! THE JOY OF CONDUCTING. This year‘s VR Pop Up Cinema in the Futuro-Haus was also a great success. A total of 1,150 guests experienced the VR exhibitions SCHIELE: EINE PERSÖNLICHE BEGEGNUNG IN VR, CITYFLOW – LOOMITS MÜNCHEN and DUCHAMPIANA, as well as the AR installation CURRENT. The VR experiences were fully booked almost all of the time.
Co-Festival Director Adele Kohout:“We are very happy that our anniversary edition was so successful. Our innovations were well received. Guests really appreciated our new programme structure, which featured thematically focused sections. With our new ‘all inclusive award’, for productions in which filmmakers with disabilities play a leading role, we have established a significant new award, which we presented at a celebratory awards ceremony at the Münchner Kammerspiele. The special venues, which span the entire city of Munich, are a unique feature of our festival. New venues such as the Volkstheater and the Bergson Kunstkraftwerk were also very well received by the audience. We received a lot of enthusiastic feedback about our anniversary edition, and we are delighted that Daniel Sponsel was able to conclude his involvement with such a successful event.“
Festival director Daniel Sponsel:“The last 16 years as director of DOK.fest München have been an intense period for me, and I found the role very inspiring. I am grateful for the many incredible films from all over the world that we were able to show, and for the encounters with filmmakers and audiences. Together, we have established DOK.fest München as a ‘must-visit’ destination for film culture in Munich. I would like to thank all our supporters, partners, and sponsors. Furthermore, none of this would have been possible without our competent and highly motivated team. I am sure that Adele Kohout will continue this success as director, and I wish her and the team all the best.“
